Keeping Your Hair Looking Great Between Visits to the Barber

Between trips to the barber, many people forget about hair care other than a quick wash and comb-out every day. Many of our clients ask questions about ways they can keep their hair looking as great at home as it does when they step out of the barber shop. We’ve put together a few tips from the pros to help your hair look great and stay healthy every day.

Washing. If you’re washing every day, you may be stripping off your hair’s natural oils that keep it soft and easy to style, leaving it dry and frizzy. Most pros agree that using shampoo once or twice a week is the way to go. When you do wash, always use products that your barber recommends for your individual hair type.

Conditioning. While less is more on the shampoo side, conditioning is always a must. Use a conditioner – again, one recommended by your barber – every time you shower, and rinse well.

Towel drying. Many people are too rough on their hair, rubbing it hard with the towel after showering so it will dry faster. When your hair is wet, it’s easier to damage, so go gentle with the towel and pat it dry instead.

Styling products. Choose a style that is easy to keep without excessive use of gels, waxes and other hair products. Build up from using too many products weighs down your hair and makes your style look unnatural.

Heat. Heat, whether from blow dryers or other styling tools or hot showers, can damage hair. Take warm showers instead and avoid styles that require too much time under the blow dryer.

Trimming. Finally, keep those regular barber appointments for trimming. Regular cuts remove damaged split ends and make your hair look healthier.
