Guide to Growing a Beard for Winter

With the weather cooling and winter fast approaching you begin to consider growing out your beard to help ward off winter’s chill. Whether you are clean-shaven or keep your beard short, now is the perfect time to give a bushy lumberjack style beard a try. It’s a trendy look that lends a distinguished feel to your appearance. Here are some tips to help you on your journey.

Have Patience
Many men think they can’t grow a long full beard because they’ve already tried and failed. Usually, it’s not your beard that’s the issue, but your patience. Facial hair doesn’t grow quite as fast as the hair on your head. Stubble seems to grow at an astonishing rate but often seems to stall there and not get any bushier. This is the point that guys get discouraged and give up. If you have a little patience and wait it out, you should start to see results around the four-week mark. Trust us, it’s worth the wait.

Eat Well
When it comes to beards, the diet may not be the first thing that comes to mind, but unless you give it the proper nutrients, hair won’t grow well. To help promote a faster-growing beard make sure you’re getting plenty of high-quality protein, healthy fats like Omega 3s, and a multivitamin with biotin iron, zinc, and vitamins  C, D, E, and B-complex wouldn’t hurt either. All these are needed for healthy hair growth.

Care for It Correctly
Somewhere about 2-3 weeks into growing your beard your face may start itching. This might be because you’ve been washing with your regular soap. You can avoid this itch by washing with a beard wash and moisturizing daily. Beard oil is a great option that will keep both your beard and skin from drying out.

Keep It Groomed, But Don’t Overdo It
Grooming is by far the most important step in growing a beard. Left to grow untamed you will soon start to look scruffy and unkempt. Keeping it trimmed into a neat shape as it grows will maintain a well-groomed appearance. Just be sure not to over trim or you will thwart your efforts to gain length. One mistake many make is shaving their neck. You definitely want to keep this area neat, but don’t shave it off. Hair tends to grow a bit faster in this area and is what gives you the length and fullness you’re looking for.
