Banish Hat Hair with These Easy Tips

As the weather cools a new challenge arises for your hairstyle– hat hair. You need to keep warm while also maintaining your image, so what’s a person to do? Luckily there are a few easy tips that can help keep your hair looking great when it’s time for the hat to come off.

Choose a Well Fitting Hair Friendly Hat

The best way to deal with hat hair is to avoid it in the first place. There may always be a small indention when you take the hat off, but there are ways to minimize the hat line so that it’s barely noticeable. Choose hats that don’t fit tightly on your head and make minimal contact with your hair. Less pressure means a softer line. Knit hats that fit tightly on the head should be avoided as they are sure to leave your hair in a tousled mess.

Don’t Go Out With Damp Hair
Your mother was right! You should never go out with damp hair. Make sure your hair is completely dry before you don your cap to keep the helmet head at bay. If your hair dries in a kink under a hat, it will stay that way until you wash it out.

Take It Off When You Can

It may be tempting to plop the hat on your head and forget about it, but the longer you wear it the harsher the hat ring will be. So every time you get the chance, take the hat off to give your hair a chance to fluff back up. While your hat is on, don’t fiddle with it. Constantly readjusting your hat will mess up your hair. So put it on carefully, and then leave it alone until you can take it off again.

Fixing Helmet Head When Out and About

If helmet head attacks when you’re on the go, you can tame it down without drenching your head and completely restyling. Take a small towel and wet it with the hottest water you can tolerate. Wring out excess water leaving the towel slightly damp. Gently wrap the towel around your hair for a minute or two to give it a bit of a steam and iron out the indents. Gently wipe the rest of your hair so that it’s all equally damp and then fingerstyle where needed. You’ll be a bit damp, but hat hair will be gone. Just be sure your hair dries before putting your hat on again.
